Man Survives with Bullet in His Brain after 30 Years

Many strange miracles occur daily, and this story is no exception. Jim Saunders, 52, from Abilene, Texas, has been living with a bullet in his brain for the past 30 years. Ironically, the bullet was placed there by his ex-wife, Faith Saunders 30 years ago from a gun that Saunders had bought her for a present. His ex-wife had put the gun up to his forehead while Jim was sleeping and in point blank range, pulled the trigger of a .25 caliber pistol on august 24, 1981. In a police statement, Faith had told them that she drove around for an hour before returning to her husband, still miraculously alive. She then told a co-worker what had happened, which informed the police. Jim was in a coma for two weeks and had to have a part of his brain removed to keep down the swelling, later it was replaced. Jim now is left virtually blind because of the shooting with no sense of smell. There had been some tension in the relationship from Jim catching Faith cheating on him with other woman. Although the two of them had been arguing, Jim never saw the event of the shooting ever happening. The two had divorced and Faith was sentenced to 20 years in jail, but was paroled after just 4 years for good behaviour. Even after such an overwhelming event, Jim is still able to forgive his ex-wife and attempt at a short-lived reconciliation. At this moment, Jim does not know where faith lives or what happened to her, but is living happily interviewed by a reporter, Jim had told him “I hope she’s alive, and if not, I hope that before she died she had the chance to start doing things right.”

This story is quite astounding. At first you would think that no one could possibly survive from being shot point blank to the head, but this man triumphs all odds. I have great respect for Jim Saunders and how positive he is able to be while sticking through his recovery. Not many people would be too positive about being shot in the head from a .25 caliber pistol. Nor would most people be able to forgive someone from shooting them in point blank range, and in this case, especially since the gun that was given to his Saunder’s wife from him as a gift. Even further, Saunders was able to forgive his ex-wife and even attempt at a reconciliation, which I think is even a greater reason to respect Saunder’s for his optimism and strength. If such a thing similar were to happen to me, I know that I wouldn’t be positive about it. I think that I may attempt at forgiving the person that may do this to me, but I know that I would never forget. I am so happy at the fact that Saunder’s has been able to pull through this event and is still able to live a normal, happy life. With the exception of no smell, and little sight, Jim is lucky to be alive. I am even happier for him that Saunders has been able to pull through this event with his new wife, Kathryn, which he has most likely met through his rehabilitation as she is a nurse. I do not believe faith should’ve been paroled after two years of good behaviour. I believe that Faith had done a horrible act, and it seems to me that there is a good chance that she may even commit such a brutal act again if given the opportunity. I hope that Faith has learned from her mistakes, because I would never want such a horrible event happening again to someone who doesn’t deserve such events.
