iPhone Captures Moment Grandmother shot Son-in-law Over divorce Custody Battle

A grandmother has now allegedly shot her son-in-law during a hateful and bitter fight over a divorce. The divorce included the son-in-law and the grandmother’s grand daughter. The son-in-law, Salvatore Miglino, had come over to his grandmother-in-law’s house to pick up his three year old son. Miglino knew there would be some from of confrontation when picking up the child, but he never expected a shooting to happen. The grandmother-in-law, Cheryl Hepner, had allegedly pulled out a .22 caliber Beretta handgun outside of her home and shot Miglino twice in his shoulder and ribcage. The iPhone that had recorded the sounds of the shooting, not the actual shooting, was left in the car. The iPhone was recording at this point so that Miglino could record the handover of his three year old child. After the shooting, Miglino later attempted to wrestle Hepner’s gun out of her hand before driving away and informing the police. On the video recorded by the iPhone, you can hear Miglino screaming “I can’t believe you did that! What, are you crazy?” to Hepner after she had shot him. However, later Hepner had told police that it was actually Miglino that had pulled the gun on her. An affidavit had stated that Hepner “did knowingly and intentionally plan to kill and murder Mr. Miglino from a premeditated design.”

It seems to me that this divorce must have been quite bitter for the grandmother to shoot her son-in-law and have such awful actions planned out and premeditated. I do not find that even the thought of shooting her son-in-law was right and more so, had reasonable grounds for the grandmother to act upon these thoughts. There may have been some actions made by Miglino that may have been cruel as well previously done for the Hepner to think this way, but no unthoughtful actions should result in being shot, especially in front of Miglino’s three year old child. I feel incredibly horrible for Miglino’s son to be in involved in such a rough time. I would feel awful for any child who had to deal with his parents divorcing, and on top of the divorce, the child now has to deal with the imagery or sounds of hearing his father being shot by his great grandmother. I also feel awful at the fact that now the child will son have no grandmother to take care of him or see for many years due to her soon to be sentencing. I do hope that Hepner would serve some time in jail to learn from her inappropriate and beyond immature mistakes. I think that immediately, this family should go for counseling to settle out some rough patches in their relationships with one another. A divorce may be needed and wanted, but these types of arguments and events should never happen due to these circumstances.

Gynecologists Faces Charges For Secret Photos

On November 21st, 700 women had agreed to press charges against a gynecologist who has secretly taken thousands of pictures of patients in his practice own of Schifferstadt in western Germany. It is said that as many as 3,000 patients had came through the gynecologists doors to receive their check ups where he had secretly taken pictures of them. Later a secret camera was found set up during regular examinations. Local state prosecutor, Lothar Liebing had this to say: “He stands accused of secretly taking photos of female patients' private body parts…we now need to make clear to what extent he has done this and, of course, why he did this." This gynecologist could now only face up to a year in prison for violating intimacy rights. The name of the gynecologist hasn’t been given out due to privacy rights, but it is known that he is 56 years of age. After being caught from these disrespectful acts, his business is now inevitably closed. More than 35,000 pictures were found in the gynecologist’s office. There is an ongoing investigation of this perverted doctor’s ways and it is said that many more woman could come forward.

There is no way or possible reasoning that anyone could convince me that this gynecologist is respectful and has responsibly fulfilled his duties as a gynecologist. I find this man a disgusting and perverted individual. I also find that he deserves more than just a year in jail for the violation of intimacy rights. In his actions, he has harmed many people emotionally. I know that if this gynecologist was my doctor, I would be ridiculously ashamed and feel as if all boundaries and privacies were broken. I feel awful for the women that have to deal with such circumstances. I hope that this doctor really has what’s coming fro him. I hope that many other women come forward to put this disgustingly perverted man in jail for a very long time. He has no right to take these pictures seeing as he had no consent from any of these woman for doing such actions. If I could help make sure he would face more serious charges, I gladly would. I feel that one year is clearly not sufficient for his charges.

Fire at Indian Hospital Kills 89 as Staff Flees

A horrific blaze at a hospital in Kolkata, India is now being under investigation. This fire had killed close to 90 people as staff had fled. At this moment, six hospital officials were arrested and charged with culpable homicide. The hospital was also revoked its license because of the tragedy was poorly handled by its staff. There have been many questions about how the fire was treated by the hospital’s staff, and because of this an investigation is being made. CTV’s South Asia Bureau Chief Janis Mackey Frayer told the CTV news channel that “It took hours they say for the fire trucks to show up at the hospital and then they struggled to get trucks down the narrow lane to access the hospital.” Many local residents said they tried to help with the situation inside of the hospital, but were prevented to by the hospital security guards, which told them that everything was under control. Shockingly, the body guards still stopped the local residents from entering even though many residents and occupants from the hospital had called others from cell phones outside of the hospital in complete fear and terror of their lives. Unfortunately, most patients had died from the fumes and smoke suffocation. The only people that had helped the patients out of the fire were the rescue workers who had used ladders to smash through windows to help free the patients before they had suffocated form the fumes. In total, the rescue workers had pulled 73 people from the building, and another 16 died later from their injuries. The West Bengal state minister of public health engineering, Subrata Mukherjee, said it was "horrifying that the hospital authorities did not make any effort to rescue trapped patients,” and that disappointingly “"Senior hospital authorities ran away after the fire broke out."

I find this whole story incredibly shocking. I think that the hospital had every right to have its license revoked on the grounds that their staff had not been properly trained, or that they had made such selfish actions to not even attempt at rescuing the helpless patients around them. I hope that the investigation is run deep enough so that all staff that had fled and selfishly committed many acts of homicide are brought to justice. I can see how many would act on natural instincts to protect them selves from the fire before others, but these people work at the hospital and are trained to help those patients under the circumstances of life endangerment. It is the hospital staff’s duties to protect and increase the longevity of their patient’s lives, not leave them to die in a fire and hear them scream cries of help as flames engulf the building. If I were in this situation, I know I would try to help out as much as I am able to do, however I still would be trying to protect my own life. My own life in this situation would come before others because of natural instincts, but I would still help many people before leaving or assisting the emergency rescue team. If I were in this situation and committed the exact actions of most of the hospital’s staff, I could never live with the guilt that I would leave many innocent and helpless people to die in a burning flame. It is a shame that a hospital has now succumbed to being shut down because of the fact of these selfish actions, seeing as many areas of the world are in need of more hospitals, never less. I hope that justice is brought in many of these cases associated with this event.

Man Survives with Bullet in His Brain after 30 Years

Many strange miracles occur daily, and this story is no exception. Jim Saunders, 52, from Abilene, Texas, has been living with a bullet in his brain for the past 30 years. Ironically, the bullet was placed there by his ex-wife, Faith Saunders 30 years ago from a gun that Saunders had bought her for a present. His ex-wife had put the gun up to his forehead while Jim was sleeping and in point blank range, pulled the trigger of a .25 caliber pistol on august 24, 1981. In a police statement, Faith had told them that she drove around for an hour before returning to her husband, still miraculously alive. She then told a co-worker what had happened, which informed the police. Jim was in a coma for two weeks and had to have a part of his brain removed to keep down the swelling, later it was replaced. Jim now is left virtually blind because of the shooting with no sense of smell. There had been some tension in the relationship from Jim catching Faith cheating on him with other woman. Although the two of them had been arguing, Jim never saw the event of the shooting ever happening. The two had divorced and Faith was sentenced to 20 years in jail, but was paroled after just 4 years for good behaviour. Even after such an overwhelming event, Jim is still able to forgive his ex-wife and attempt at a short-lived reconciliation. At this moment, Jim does not know where faith lives or what happened to her, but is living happily interviewed by a reporter, Jim had told him “I hope she’s alive, and if not, I hope that before she died she had the chance to start doing things right.”

This story is quite astounding. At first you would think that no one could possibly survive from being shot point blank to the head, but this man triumphs all odds. I have great respect for Jim Saunders and how positive he is able to be while sticking through his recovery. Not many people would be too positive about being shot in the head from a .25 caliber pistol. Nor would most people be able to forgive someone from shooting them in point blank range, and in this case, especially since the gun that was given to his Saunder’s wife from him as a gift. Even further, Saunders was able to forgive his ex-wife and even attempt at a reconciliation, which I think is even a greater reason to respect Saunder’s for his optimism and strength. If such a thing similar were to happen to me, I know that I wouldn’t be positive about it. I think that I may attempt at forgiving the person that may do this to me, but I know that I would never forget. I am so happy at the fact that Saunder’s has been able to pull through this event and is still able to live a normal, happy life. With the exception of no smell, and little sight, Jim is lucky to be alive. I am even happier for him that Saunders has been able to pull through this event with his new wife, Kathryn, which he has most likely met through his rehabilitation as she is a nurse. I do not believe faith should’ve been paroled after two years of good behaviour. I believe that Faith had done a horrible act, and it seems to me that there is a good chance that she may even commit such a brutal act again if given the opportunity. I hope that Faith has learned from her mistakes, because I would never want such a horrible event happening again to someone who doesn’t deserve such events.

“White Supremacists” Charged in Vancouver Hate Crimes

Two men were charged in Vancouver, BC for multiple hate crimes. These men were known to be in an international white supremacy group. These two men were known as Robert de Chazal and Shawn MacDonald, both charged with four attacks which had all occurred in the metro Vancouver area between the years 2008 and 2010. In one of the brutal attacks, the two of them had set a Filipino man on fire as he was sleeping on a couch on Commercial Drive in 2009. The Filipino man said he had been drinking, found a couch, and decided to sleep when they attack later commenced. Witnesses had seen a third man setting the Filipino man on fire, but the suspect has yet to be named.  The three white supremacists had been seen pouring lighter fluid over the Filipino man. It known that the white supremacy group that all had three of the suspects belonged to was the group called Blood and Honour. Chazal is being charged with a separate assault which left a black man unconscious in 2009. MacDonald is as well being charged with three other separate assaults - Hispanic man, a black man, and an Aboriginal woman - between the years of 2008 and 2010. Blood and Honour is known as a loosely knit white supremacist group which has a handful of followers belonging to the lower mainland.

In my view, I believe that no one should be looked as less, no matter age, sexuality, religion, gender, origin of birth, disability, and in this case, race. Each of these attacks had gone against many individual rights given by the constitution. These innocent victims were wrongly assaulted for reasons that they cannot help. I don’t find it ethical that someone would even think they have the right and privilege to ‘set a man on fire” because he is a different race than himself. All five victims did nothing wrong to have such acts of violence and assault committed against them. I do not feel that having slightly different coloured skin should determine how one is treated poorly or highly. Being Caucasian should not automatically be seen as “authority”, or as a “higher power”. I, myself am Caucasian, and being Caucasian has never made me believe that I am superior when I am amongst my multi-racial friends, nor do I think I will ever feel superior because of that reason amongst my multi-racial friends. I find all believers of white supremacy views and other groups such as this, as closed minded. At times, I sadly feel these views and groups as less intelligent than most because of how closed minded they are. These groups have little reasoning to proceed with such actions, or to even think they are higher than most because of their race. People are people, no matter their age, sexuality, religion, gender, origin of birth, disability, and race.

Man Gets Two Years for Puncturing Girlfriend's Condoms

Craig Hutchinson, a man from Nova Scotia, has been given a sentence of 18 months in jail for puncturing two holes in his girlfriend’s condom. At the time, Hutchinson’s girlfriend did not want a baby, and had only consented to sex with Hutchinson on the condition that they would use a condom. Hutchinson had aimed to have a baby with his girlfriend, and seemed that he would do any to have this baby. From puncturing the condoms, Hutchinson’s girlfriend then became pregnant and had an abortion in the fall of 2006. Unfortunately, the abortion had given her a uterus infection, and was later treated with antibiotics. Justice Richard Coughlan had said that Hutchinson’s pre meditated actions of piercing the condoms and breaching his girlfriend’s trust were aggravating factors in this case. "Incarceration is the only suitable way to express society's condemnation of Mr. Hutchinson's conduct," said Coughlan. Justice Coughlan later sentenced Hutchinson for a two year prison sentence for sexual assault. However, the defence lawyer Patrick MacEwan argued that “As far as sexual assault cases are concerned, this is at the low end of the scale.” When asked if Hutchinson had any remorse from his actions he replied with “Not at all.”

I find this act done by Craig Hutchinson utterly dastardly and almost repulsive. I am however more disgusted at the fact that Hutchinson had no remorse for his previous actions. You cannot force or tick someone to have a baby with you. Hutchinson’s girlfriend had said that she did not want a baby, and because of his actions, she had to commit the extreme action of having an abortion done. To many, this act in itself is disturbing. I for one, feel that everyone has the right to do what they will with heir own body and decide whether or not to keep their baby for their sake or for their baby’s sake. However, committing such actions and going through abortion may be a tormenting experience because of the fact that the woman may be distraught that she may have ended a life. Puncturing someone’s condoms and tricking them to become pregnant is a cruel and dastardly deed. Hutchinson had breached all known trust with his girlfriend and now I would think that his girlfriend, or maybe even now, his ex-girlfriend, would have little to no trust in Hutchinson. I even feel that Hutchinson’s sentence should be longer, rather than 2 years in prison. I find it ridiculous that MacEwan would think that this action would receive a lesser sentence when Hutchinson had, in some perspectives, forced life. I also am quite shocked at the fact that Hutchinson has absolutely no remorse for what he’s done. This also shows that Hutchinson may even commit the same actions shown here at another time. I truthfully have no respect for Craig Hutchinson. I hope that if any girl would want to attempt a relationship with Hutchinson that they would use birth control, not condoms. Hutchinson fortunately can’t puncture birth control.

Armstrong's Horrific Halloween Murder

A truly devastating event occurred on Halloween night, a night normally known as joyous sweet treat filled, in a tight knit, quaint, little city named Armstrong. Taylor Van-Diest, an 18 year old graduate was found unconscious near the train tacks of Armstrong, on Halloween night. The murderer or the innocent teen has yet to be found and thirty investigators at this very moment are trying to find out who may have taken this teen's life. Concern was becoming greater about the teen's whereabouts and safety after she had stopped responding to texts and had failed to meet a friend to go trick or treating at 7:30. Later her lost cell phone was found near the train tracks and the strangers that had found it called her parents. From there the police found where Taylor was by tracking down the cell phone signal. Taylor was found near by in the bushes near the train tracks, still alive, but badly beaten and injured. Unfortunately, the teen later died in the hospital due to head injuries Monday night. The teen was known as a quiet, smart, sweet, and cheery girl. Her cousin Erica Mihalcheon said that "[She had] seen no reason that anyone would attack her." The people of Armstrong are shocked and horrified at this event. Unfortunately, there have been a numerous amount of deaths in Armstrong around the same time, and each time the community of Armstrong has come together to support one another through these saddening events. The Mayor of Armstrong had said that “The people rallied around the family during that tragedy and I’m sure they’ll rally around the family this time."

I find this an extraordinarily shocking event. The death of an innocent girl is very disturbing, but what affects me the most is how surreal it is knowing that I was in the same position as her. We were both graduating, heading on to University, College, and such, moving on with our lives and starting a new chapter. However, Taylor's book was cut abruptly short. It also disturbs me that something like this can happen almost anywhere, and that this could even happen to me if I'm not careful. It seems that Taylor took all the steps for being safe: she went out earlier at night instead of later, had her phone on her and checking in with both her mom and her aunt at the time, and was meeting up with her friend to go trick or treating, something so harmless. However the unfortunate events still occurred. I try to take every precaution to be safe and make sure I don't end up in harmful situations like Taylor's, but even with all of my precautions, it seems like it still may not be enough. There have been so many deaths recently in such a small town as Armstrong, and it's sad that yet another death has occurred. The town was still recovering from a death of another teen in September due to a workplace accident, and now they even have more weight on their shoulders because of this. The town of Armstrong is frightened by the recent events, and if I lived in Armstrong, I know I would be frightened too.

Germany Admits Gross Errors after Neo-Nazi Killing Spree

Admitted on Monday, November 14, the German government had made gross errors in the security services when dealing with farther-right terrorists. Errors specifically made in the 1998 neo-Nazi case dealing with Beate Zschaepe, Uwe Boehnhardt, and Uwe Mundlos (all seen below in that order). This case involved the three guilty of committing murder of nine shopkeepers. It is said that mainly all of the shopkeepers murdered were of Turkish origin. Further questioning of the nine murders has been brought up after a discovery of a pistol was used in the nine murders and that investigators were trying to learn if a larger militant network has escaped their notice. Hans-Peter Friedrich told the daily Bild that “It is deeply troubling that there was no connection made between the murder series across Germany and the far-right scene in Thuringia." These murders have been disturbingly called the “kebab murders” because many of the victims ran snack shops. Bild also disturbingly reported that the killers had shot many of their victims in the face at point-blank range and even recorded and filmed their victims murdered and bloodied bodies as trophies. Uwe Boehnhardt and Uwe Mundlos were later found torched to death in a caravan in an apparent suicide. Wanted for questioning over an armed robbery in Jena, Beate Zschaepe had turned herself in afterwards after blowing up a rented flat in nearby Zwickau.

I find this whole case hard to believe. I firstly find it hard to believe that one would have such opinions and beliefs that were so discriminating, that they would take it as far as to commit many murders and torture those who were related to the victims with their deaths. I truthfully find all opinions and views of Nazi’s quite hard to believe. There is never such a thing as a perfect world, and I don’t think someone should take the idea of a ‘perfect world” so far that they would kill innocent people to achieve this. There may not be such a thing as a perfect world, but my definition of this is much different than those of a Nazi’s. I believe that a perfect world includes non-violent acts of others getting along in harmony, and setting aside their differences for each other and for peace. I believe a perfect world is a multi cultural world where no one is judged base on their origin, religion, sex, sexuality, or disabilities. I find the actions of all Nazis, including those depicted in this story cruel and irrational to a point where I find these actions so horrifying, that it is hard to believe of their existence. I find Beate Zschaepe, Uwe Boehnhardt, and Uwe Mundlos disgusting individuals. I find it even more disgusting that Zschaepe would not care about her actions to such a point where she would ask or even think about making a deal for a lesser sentence, if she gives a full confessional. Through confessional, Zschaepe might confess to many more murders or cruel and unusual acts, but these acts cannot be punished with her sentence being reduced.  I believe that she fully does not care about her committed actions and should be put away for the rest of her life. I do not believe that she is rightfully fit for society and should be put away for along time. With the case being brought up again for questioning, I hope that Zschaepe is put away for a much longer time with the possible event for more convictions being assessed.

Son of Lions Head trainer Dies in Car Wreck

A tragic event happened on Saturday night, November 12, in Langley, where Dylan Reichelt died from a car crash. Dylan was the teenage son of the B.C Lions head trainer, Bill Reichelt. The members of the B.C Lions Club are all mourning the loss of Dylan Reichelt. Two cars were in the accident crashed separately at the scene. Police have said that a BMW went off the road to the right at about 9:30 pm. The BMW had hit a tree and finally came to rest against a second tree hit, at this point killing Dylan Reichelt. The second vehicle, a Mazda, was traveling with the BMW and had gone off the road to the left and had crashed into a hedge. Only the occupants in the BMW had been injured. The two drivers of the cars and another passenger were not seriously injured. It is known that all four of the individuals in the two cars, including Dylan, were friends. It is believed that alcohol was not a factor in this accident, but instead poor weather and speed may have contributed to this crash. B.C Lions spokesman Jamie Cartmell had said that “The Reichelt family thanks those who are supporting them during this difficult period and ask their privacy be respected at this time.”

My opinion about the situation is very limited to the fact that it is a very simple case of accidental death while driving. My main opinion of this story is more that I question the reasoning of the accident and how it may have occurred. I of course fully believe that the conditions of the weather were a main factor in the accidental death. However something does lead me to believe that there was alcohol or other drugs related with the accident. The drivers both swerved into two separate directions quite severely to the sides. The weather may have been bad, but not bad enough to make both cars swerve such severely to cause death. However there must've been a breathalyzer test or other drug tests to see if any of the individuals were under the influence, and seeing as nothing came up in these tests, it is hard to believe this. It is still easy to question the actions of the accident, even though there is a good possibility of the tests being used after the accident. So because of this, I more believe that the accident may have occurred from distractions or other obstacles from making both drivers swerve. Both drivers swerved closely together so it makes me believe that their causes of the accidents would have been related as well.

Troops Return Slums to the State

With helicopters and armored vehicles at the ready, three thousand troops occupied Rio de Janerio’s largest slum, Rochina, to seize drug gangs and bring security to the area. This occupation is a notable crucial step in the preparations for the 2014 Fifa World cup and the 2016 Olympics. Troops before have occupied many slums before in the past couple years, but none as notable as Rochina. The occupation of the area was declared a success just two hours after the occupation had begun at 4 am. No resistance was made, but one person detained; the operation was considered a smooth process. Residents were clearly happy and ready to embrace the new differences and have more secure living conditions. Sergio Pimental had much to say about the occupation, “Let’s hope for the best, but there’s a lot more that needs to be done…We need basic sanitation, health, education. They have not come in with everything, not just the police.” Rochina is often known as the largest slum in Latin America and is also known as the main drug distribution point in Brazil’s second largest cities. In the process of the occupation of Rio de Janerio’s largest slum, police were able to capture many well known drug bosses as well as the slum’s alleged top drug lord.  After the troop’s occupation of Rochina, Rio authorities are following up this invasion by handing slums over to specially trained community police and providing these slums with needs such as health centers and electricity supply. The residents of Rochina are satisfied with the newly developing growth of the slum, but are still striving for a safer environment to raise their families.

In my personal opinion, I find the troops occupations of Rochina a great feat. Many people living in these slums have limited opportunities in life, and cleaning up these slums will widen these opportunities. These streets are engulfed with crime, drugs, and harmful living conditions. With the clean up, many top drug dealers are being putting away as well, to help slow down crime in the slums. This clean up also brings health centers and electricity supplies, which is a great improvement in the slums. I think that the occupations of these slums are great positive movements to improving the quality of life for those that have little. I think that these people living in the slums deserve better lives, and the fact that now something is being done to improve their conditions is great. I fully support the invasions. I am as well glad and hopeful for further occupations of near by slums. However, a simple clean up may not bring these slums to the point where they need to be. Years of work and production to these slums can surely make a large difference, but many residents can't wait. Many residents can't wait for years to receive the dire medical attention that they need today. Soon I hope that these slums will turn into something great. I strongly support these occupations, they are a great start to many new lives of the residents of these slums.
